Theresa Pearson

  • Nursery Care Provider

A native of Florence, South Carolina, Theresa moved to Baltimore and in the late seventies she graduated from Towson State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten in Baltimore City public schools for several years and then took a position as the Program Director for Housing and Community Development for the City of Baltimore. Working in childcare administration for over twenty years, she also co-chaired the children’s activities for the Afram Cultural Festival for twenty years. As Legislative Aide for the Tenth District, Theresa worked the legislative sessions in Annapolis for three years. An early childhood education advocate at heart, she arranged many field trips for children involved in local childcare programs. Eventually, she went back to school and earned a Master of Education Degree from Goucher College. She was hired to open the Charles Plaza Childcare Center on North Charles Street and since 2003, the center has ben serving the needs of the downtown community. Old St. Paul’s Church hired Theresa to be in charge of our Nursery Care Program in 2005. For Theresa, this has been a blessing from God. “Never having children of my own, my life has been so enriched with providing quality care for young children from just about every country imaginable.”

Children’s Worship

During the first half of the 10:30 service, young children are invited to go downstairs to have their very own worship experience. Gathered in a circle on the floor, children are joyfully engaged through singing, playing percussion instruments, praying, and listening to the good news for the day. Families arriving for the service are invited to find a seat in a pew upstairs, sing the opening hymn together, and then when the priest invites children to go downstairs for Children’s Worship, they may go through the side door with their friends to gather in the Undercroft for a special worship time together. Children who are five and younger must be accompanied by a parent. Parents are always welcome to join us. Before the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the children will rejoin their families upstairs so that all ages in our congregation can enjoy receiving communion together.
